Theme of the week is: Celebration

School Clubs

Faringdon Community College offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities and after-school clubs.

There are four late buses per week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings which enable students who travel to school by bus to participate in the afterschool programme. These buses depart FCC at 4.30pm and are free to students who have attended one of the official activities.

There is plenty of evidence to suggest that students who engage in extra-curricular activities actually do better in school. In addition to the many specific clubs organised for after school, the college library is open from 8am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursdays and from 8am to 4pm on Fridays.

Some of the many sports clubs available to students afterschool include:
  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Boys Football
  • Netball
  • Rugby - Year 7 -10
  • Rugby - Y11 & 6th form
  • Girls Rugby -
  • Swimming
  • Tennis

In addition to these are non-sporting clubs:

  • Art Club (Mons and Weds)
  • Choir (Mon)
  • Homework Club (Mons – Thurs)
  • ICT & Computing Y10, Y11 (Mon, Tues, Wed)
  • Textiles Club (Mon)

There are also a number of Enrichment activities that some students participate in:

  • Astronomy GCSE
  • Golf Tournament (once per year)
  • Science Club
  • Junior and Community Sports Leader Award

Many clubs and activities are available to students during the school day too:

  • Djembe Club
  • Various Music Lessons: Piano, Violin, Flute, Clarinet, Drums, etc.

There are also catch-up lessons for Year 10 and 11 for ICT Coursework on the following days:

Week A Week B
Monday Lunchtime IT2 Tuesday Lunchtime IT2
Tuesday After school IT2 Wednesday After School IT1

Throughout the year teachers also provide students with various revision and catch-up classes for most subjects as well as opportunities for students to do work in addition to their regular curriculum. In addition our school sports day takes place at the end of the summer term each year.

Students must remember to be aware of their personal safety. When activities are over, students should make sure they have made arrangements to be picked up if necessary and if walking home in the dark they should use a well-lit route and ideally walk with friends. Students should always let someone at home know when they are due home.
