Resistant Materials

This course has been designed to encourage students to be able to design and make products with creativity and originality, using a wide range of materials and techniques.


In this course you will be designing and making 3D products using resistant materials, including wood, plastic, metal, card and paper. You will also be using a variety of tools, machines and processes including CAD/CAM machinery such as the laser cutter and router. You will be encouraged to consider packaging, labelling and instructions as part of the complete design proposal. You will be challenge to design and make innovative projects which consider sustainable design, cultural and designer influences.


You will be enthused by the range of practical activities on offer. Typical projects would include, ‘design and make a table lamp incorporating CAD/CAM’, 'design and make a pewter cast product’ and ‘design and make a product using the veneering technique’.
