Course Content:

60% Theory
40% Practical

AS
Unit 1 – The opportunities for leading a healthy and active lifestyle and the resulting effects.
Unit 2 – Analysis and evaluation of physical activity as a performer and / or in an adapted 
role/s.

A2
Unit 3 – Optimising performance and evaluating contemporary issues within sport.
Unit 4 – Optimising practical performance in a competitive situation.

 

Lesson Style
Teachers use a range of teaching styles during the delivery including PowerPoint and group 
discussion. Students will also be asked to make a presentation from their research.

 

Time Allocation
Eight hours taught over a two-week timetable. Most lessons are theory based; students 
complete their practical attendance through a club. It is compulsory that all A Level PE 
students are performing their sport at club level in the school or community.

 

Private Study Requirement
Extensive private study and independent research is required for all A Levels. Students need 
to complete a minimum of 2 hours independent study per week. Students must also 
participate in their chosen practical sport on a weekly basis.

 

Advisable for following careers
Sport Science Degree, PE Teaching Degree, Physiotherapy, Sport Psychology, Sports 
Development and Management, Coaching.

 

Good Combination With
Biology or any Science, LSCA (Community Sports Leader Award.)
