Theme of the week is: discrimination
It is a work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments based on workplace situations. There is also an online exam worth 25% of the course. It is good preparation for students looking to work in areas such as sports centres or leisure centres, and who would normally go on to study more advanced courses in this type of work after Y11.
The qualification counts as the equivalent to 1 GCSE: Pass = C, Merit = B, Distinction = A/A*
You will study 2 core units and 1 optional unit:
Core Units – Fitness for Sport and Exercise (External exam 25%) , Practical Sports Performance
Specialist Units from – The Mind and Sports Performance, The Sports Performer in Action, Training for Personal Fitness and Leading Sports Activities.
75% of the course is assessed through written assignments and a core unit is assessed by an external exam worth 25%. An overall grade is awarded at the end of the course. There will be some practical lessons and students opting for this course must enjoy playing sport in a mixed sex class. They do not need to be very good at sport but just an enthusiasm to participate.
We highly recommend that you talk to the PE staff before opting for this course.
